McNay Reopening

The McNay will be reopening 6/26/2020 at 10 am with new safety measures in place.

“We are requiring masks, we’re also maximizing social distancing and creating an environment where we have capacity levels, to make sure everyone has the space that is required to be safe and healthy,” CEO Richarte Aste said. “There are sanitizing centers throughout the museum as well.”

 

About the McNay Art Museum

San Antonio’s McNay Art Museum bears the distinction of being the first museum of modern art in Texas. The museum first opened its doors to the public in 1954 with 700 works of art and today has expanded to over 22,000 pieces spanning from the Medieval period to today. The museum boasts one of the finest collections of prints and drawings in the Southwest and features pieces from such legendary European and American artists as Georgia O’Keefe, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne, and Henri Matisse.

Admission to the McNay Art museum usually starts at $20 for adults, but the good news is there are plenty of ways you can save on your visit.

1. Groupon offers great deals to the museum

2. Take advantage of discounts for adults

There are plenty of other great ways adults can score McNay Art Museum discount tickets. Students ages 20 and over with a valid student ID can get 25% off admission. Seniors 65 and up and active military members also get that same 25% discount, meaning admission is just $15 for these groups.

3. Visit free on certain nights

The McNay participates in free museum days along with many other venues in San Antonio. Every Thursday night from 4 to 9 pm, the McNay hosts free nights sponsored by HEB. Additionally, the first Sunday of the month is also free from Noon until 5 pm. Finally, if you’re a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch cardholder, you can get free admission on the first full weekend of every month.

4. Students and faculty at certain schools get in free always

The McNay Art Museum offers free general admission always for students, faculty, and staff at Alamo Colleges, University of the Incarnate Word, and Trinity University.

McNay Art Museum Hours

The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but open the following hours on the other days of the week:

  • Wednesday 10 am–6 pm
  • Thursday 10 am–9 pm
  • Friday 10 am–6 pm
  • Saturday 10 am –5 pm
  • Sunday Noon–5 pm

The museum is also closed on four holidays during the year: New Year’s Day, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, and the 4th of July.
